Goldfill is composed of a solid layer of 14 karat gold bonded with heat and pressure to brass. Strict regulations govern the process mandating the gold must make up a minimum 1/20 of the total weight of the piece. Gold-filled items are 50 to 100,000 times thicker than regular gold plating.
Pure gold is too soft for everyday wear, so gold is mixed with other metals such as silver, copper, and nickel to make it more durable. This is noted through the karat (the letter "K") and color of the metal. Karat is measured in 24ths, and 24k gold is 100% gold.
We use 14k and 18k gold in our pieces. 14k gold is 58.3% gold and 41.7% other metals. 18k is 75% gold, and 25% other metals.
The following stones may be incorporated in our beaded or stone-based items. Custom requests for gemstones are welcomed, and based on availability from suppliers.
- Quartz (green quartz, rose quartz, smoky quartz, clear quartz)
