Jewelry Storytellers: Virginia Arrisueño of DeNada
One of the best parts of my job is being able to work with people to create memorable pieces of jewelry - whether it's a small necklace for a friend signifying an important milestone in their life, or an engagement ring representing two people's union.
In an effort to highlight the importance that jewelry plays in people's lives, i'm interviewing several creatives in the DC area about what jewelry means to them, their favorite pieces, and more. First up is Virginia Arrisueño of DeNada Designs, who creates beautiful knitwear right here in the District!
Why is jewelry important and meaningful to you?
For me jewelry is important because of the memories behind it. My most beloved pieces are tied to the people I love. And in that way, jewelry reminds me of the important things in life.
What is your favorite piece of jewelry?
I have a lot of pieces I wear consistently, but I’d have to say my engagement ring. It is an everyday reminder of the beauty of marriage and of the teamwork, challenges, and triumphs that come with it.
What's the first piece of jewelry you ever received?
I had my ears pierced as a baby, so probably earrings!
What's one piece of jewelry you never take off?
This isn’t strictly a jewelry item, but I never take off my Apple Watch. The picture on my home-screen is of my family, so it’s another wearable that reminds me of the people I love. It also helps keep me focused, organized, and reminds me to stay positive.
What is one piece from my collection you would love to wear?
The Gold Ear Climber Studs! I love the edgy play on a classic style. And as someone who wears a lot of black, I always appreciate the way a touch of gold compliments an outfit.
